Little Milton -- Many Rivers To Cross
This version of the beautiful song written and originally sung by Jimmy Cliff is an absolute favorite of mine. I love the emphasis the guitar part has been given in this recording. The guitar substitutes for the almost church-like organ tune in the original version. It took me a while though to get used to Little Milton's gravely voice because Jimmy Cliff's tenor seemed to be an inseparable element of the song as it has been known for ages. Somehow Little Milton's voice struck me as being too foreign to and imcompatible with the sweetness of the melody. Nevertheless, there was something in Little Milton's version that attracted me despite these inital "shortcomings,"and after a few more listenings I found his version at least as attractive as the original.
