Clyde Dean probably has only released one single of which he wrote both sides. Today's track came up on my playlist, and I thought I should share it. Such umistakable Southern Soul tracks as Can You Keep A Secret always have me hum and dance along.

Geater Davis "A Sad Shade of Blue", "Long Cold Winter"

This voice is right after my taste: rough, gritty with a touch of velvet. The two tracks I am posting today are heavily slanted towards the Blues. I'll post them on my Soul blog because Geater Davis is Soul through and through.

Geater was born in Texas in 1946. Most of his recordings have been made in the early seventies. He not only wrote/co-wrote much of his material, but also played guitar and was producing.

Unfortunately, lady luck was not on his side, and despite his soulful singing and many ear-pleasing songs, his music never sold well.

He died of a heart attack at only 38 years of age.

The songs posted are from a 2 CD compilation: Geater Davis, The Lost Soul Man (2005).

Lee Fields: "Meet Me Tonight", "You Made A New Man Out Of Me" "

Lee Fields erinnert sehr an James Brown: funky durch und durch. Der erste Titel Meet Me Tonight tendiert jedoch etwas in Richtung Deep/Southern Soul.

You Made A New Man Out Of Me von seinem Album "Problems" (2002) ist aber m. E. Funk supreme!

Seine CD's und LP's sind ganz schoen teuer, habe ich gerade festgestellt. Leider besitze ich nur "Problems," aber das ist ein ausgezeichnetes Album. Ich kann also leider nichts zu den CD's hier sagen.
